PPP-B-601
- This Federal Specification is the most widely used in the packaging industry.
It covers the fabrication of cleated plywood boxes capable of carrying 1000
pounds gross weight. It falls into the light to medium range weight category.
PPP-B-621
- This Federal Specification of wooden containers utilizing solid lumber
products rather than plywood. Boxes are considered to fall into the nailed wood
locked corner design. Normally constructed using 1 lumber for all wood panels
with 2- 4 x 4 skids. The maximum gross weight for this container is also
1000 pounds.
PPP-B-576
- This Federal Specification covers cleated plywood-on-veneer. (A very thin
plywood with paper laminated on both sides) These containers are normally used
for very light loads as they are rated 400 pounds gross shipping weight. The
down side to P.O.V. is that it does not do well when exposed to moisture.
Mil-C-104
- This military Specification covers
crates and boxes where the framing material is 2" x 4" lumber and
larger, sheathed with plywood capable of carrying a gross weight of 30,000
pounds and up. This type of container uses a solid 2" deck structure nailed
to runners ranging in size from 4" x 4" material up to 12" x
12" material, headers are placed the width of the base at both ends and
bolted through the runners to further support the base.
MODIFICATIONS
- The above specifications are utilized for Military Containers and also as
guidelines for commercial and export boxing. Boxes falling into PPP-B-576,
PPP-B-601, PPP-B- 621 can be modified using a solid 2" lumber base.
